Using Nano command line text editor

At some stage you may want to make a change to a file using a virtual terminal.

Pretty much everything can be handled in your Desktop environment, but some times the speed advantage offered by the terminal just makes it more desirable. So, here are a few tips for using Nano, the easiest to use of all CLI text editors.

To open Nano simply type:

nano

then press Enter. Or to open a file with Nano type:

nano filename.txt

Once you have editted your file and wish to save press:

Control + O

or to save and exit press:

Control + X

Both commands will prompt to save the existing document at which time you can push enter on the filename where as if you choose to exit the file you will also be prompted to save first.

The bottom couple of lines of nano contain the most common commands.
